Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
-- Margaret Mead
So many social change efforts have started from the energy and commitment of a few individuals dedicated to making a difference. Societal change begins with each of us. Each individual has something to contributethat means you! The seemingly small efforts of individuals in local schools and communities can serve as examples and inspire others. Remember the slogan, “Think Globally, Act Locally,” eventually, many incremental local changes can spark widespread change.
This page is dedicated to highlighting examples of student and community efforts to educate about and prevent hazing in local communities across the United States and globally.
Youth for Positive Change is an example of such an effort...
The mission of YFPC, Youth For Positive Change, is to create positive culture change in our youth throughout our nation, thereby creating healthier, happier adults.
YFPC is a student organization that has formed out of MASH, Mothers Against School Hazing. They are using drama to educate about the harmful effects of hazing. YFPC is currently working on writing, performing, and creating stage props for skits that will depict what hazing does to students, the hazers, the schools, and the families of those involved. The skits will be performed at schools, churches and other organizations for various age groups (ranging from primary, elementary through high school). The group is also involved in service efforts like fixing up homes for those in need, landscaping for local organizations, and refurbishing a basketball court for a community center. No job is too dirty for this group! The youth involved in this group are hoping that their ideas will trickle throughout our nation, and that all communities will join in their efforts to create this Positive Change. According to their advisor, “these students are true role models and future leaders of our nation!” The rules for membership in YFPC are:
- Have a Positive Attitude
- Treat others as you would want to be treated
- No profanity
- No drugs / alcohol
- No smoking
and Have fun while doing it........ Whatever it may be...
