Ideas adopted by Trumansburg High School, NY, after a Reported Incident.
Ask coaches and faculty what you can do to prevent this from happening at your school.
Increase supervision, especially in locker rooms. Have locker room remain locked unless a coach is available to supervise students.
Instruct coaches and athletes that locker rooms are not a place for students to hang out.
Have athletic administrators draw a map of the places where the students-athletes are in their programs. Ask yourself is there enough close adult supervision that if something began to happen, a student would know there is an adult they can turn to?
If possible stager different age groups in the locker room at different times.
Make the subject of hazing a big part of the pre and postseason meetings so that all, boys and girls in all athletic events, will have a chance to discuss it.
Have regular meetings with administrators, coaches, and faculty to talk about the issue and possible prevention tactics.
Have regular discussions with students on how they are expected to treat others.
It is important for the athletic director to continually talk to coaches about the positive impact they can have on their athlete’s lives. Ask coaches to focus on developing relationships with their athletes and give them more assistance on creating positive impact on and off the field.
Develop clinics that well help coaches foster positive relationships and respect on their teams.
